The Nash T-63 is an imagining of a 1963 T guitar that’s been heavily used over many years and showing significant finish relic wear. Built in the USA by Bill Nash in his shop in Washington state, Nash guitars offer many options including pickup types, finishes and binding.

Here we’re looking at a Nash T-63 Relic T in a reliced vintage sunburst, likely during 2011 based on the ’11’ under Bill Nash’s signature on the back of the head stock. This recalls one of the most successful and profound factory modifications of the original Telecaster, the introduction of the Rosewood fingerboard. These guitars were used by countless players in virtually every genre except Classical and Flamenco.

This example is in good condition, though the Relic process that Nash is famous for alters what that means! Nash carefully selects bodies and necks for weight and resonance, and uses a 10 inch radius with Dunlop 6105 fretwire – tall and narrow. The finish is nitrocellulose lacquer, sprayed thinly to prevent loss of resonance. The pickups are made for Nash by Lollar.  The bridge is a traditional ‘Ashtray’ style with three brass saddles.  The pickguard is a faux-tortoise in four layers.

Sitting down with it, this Nash T-63 feels like a 1963 model that’s been refretted with modern wire and properly set up.   It feels great, and is lightweight resonant and responsive.

Dating Nash guitars is a bit tricky, but there are a few markers that help place this Nash T-63. First, there’s a serial number, KA0531, written on the end of the headstock, a practice that began in 2006. The serial number indicates the dealer it was built for, and the production sequence. The front of the head is blank, and in 2008 Nash apparently began applying decals there.  However, the back of the head is signed “Bill Nash ’11”, indicating that it’s a 2011 model.

This Nash T-63 Relic is supplied with its original rectangular, rigid soft cover case.
