This National M2 Mahogany single cone resophonic guitar was built during 2019 in San Luis Obispo, California. It is equipped with an aftermarket Krivo humbucking pickup. The M1 and M2 models are currently out of production, and were built from 1990 to 1994 and again from 2003 to at least 2019.

The National M2 Mahogany was National ResoPhonic’s earliest single-cone model. The M1, produced around the same time, was the same general construction but was a Tri-Cone model. The ivoroid-bound body is Mahogany laminate, the neck solid mahogany, and the fingerboard is bound Indian Rosewood – some specs list the fingerboard as Ebony but this example is not. At its heart is a single, biscuit bridge 9.5 inch spun aluminum National cone. The finish is a satin sunburst, and the pearloid headstock overlay is a nice touch.

This National M2 Mahogany example is in overall good condition with little play wear. There are two small areas of lifting finish on the top, at cover attachment points. Fret wear is very light and other finish wear is negligible.

This guitar was fitted with a K&K biscuit pickup, and that’s been removed and is in the case. A Krivo Humbucking Pickup for Resophonic Guitars has been installed. These are intended to be removable, and here the owner has used painter’s tape to keep the pickup lead from dangling.

Here’s the maker on the Krivo Humbucker:

“The Krivo Humbucking Pickup for Resophonic Guitars is optimized tonally and aesthetically to suit both metal and wood-bodied resonator instruments including squarenecks, single cones, tricones, and dobros. My proprietary Optimized Microphonics winding technique faithfully captures the sound of your particular instrument. No preamp is necessary, just plug in to any guitar or acoustic amp, or via a direct-box straight into a P.A. system. The pickups mount and remove effortlessly with included finish-safe putty and the 1/4 female jack conveniently mounts to your endpin strap button: just plug in a standard guitar cable and you are ready to play! “

This guitar is set up for a combination of fingerstyle and bottleneck playing and has the distinctive warm National tone with lots of volume and projection.

This National M2 Mahogany is sold with the original hard shell case.
