National NRP Triolian Metal Body Black Rust

Brand:

Instrument Categories: , ,

The National NRP Triolian Black Rust is the 12-fret Maple neck version of the Mahogany-neck NRP Black Rust, which in turn is based on the 1930’s National Duolian.

Using a standard single cone, metal body with unrolled F-holes, the 12-fret National NRP Triolian differs only from the NRP in the use of Maple for the neck, rather than Mahogany. All the other dimensions, materials and specifications are the same.  And it’s also available in a Walnut Burst finish.

These National NRP Triolian guitars have a wonderful, rich and penetrating tone.  They do tend to be louder and project well; these characteristics were the original point of the resonator cone design, before electric amplification became available.

The original arched top National branded hard shell case is included.

National also offers this with 14-fret necks, and as an NRP B Tricone in Black Rust.

The National NRP Triolian does not appear on National’s website, but here is their description of the NRP Black Rust:

“The original Duolian arrived in 1930 as National’s basic steel-bodied, single-cone guitar and soon became famous for its musical sound. Our NRP B Series replicates the vintage Duolian — and these modern reissues surpass most old ones in quality, playability, and even tone. The thin-gauge steel body is period-correct, featuring flat-cut f-holes, traditional sieve resonator coverplate, and a formed back.

Still, no two NRP guitars are alike: The bodies are finished with a multi-stage, hand-textured finish for an individual look and semi-smooth surface profile that emulates the original Duolians. The mahogany neck with truss rod is capped by an unbound ebony fretboard complete with mother-of-pearl position markers. Vintage-style plain tuners, ebony nut, and “National” stamped into the slotted headstock complete the look of this classic.

But it’s the trademark sound that makes these guitars so special — almost like a ghostly evocation of the best vintage 1930s Duolian. The sound is powerful and loud, while still being deep and warm. Like the hallowed originals, the NRP is steeped in mojo.”
