The National Style O 12-fret Resophonic guitar first appeared in 1930 as the first single-cone Resophonic model from the National String Instrument Corporation.

In the original 1927 design by George Beauchamp and John Dopyera, three cones were used in a ‘tricone’ formation. Friction rapidly appeared partly over the cost and effectiveness of the tri-cone design. Dopyera left the company in 1928, forming DoBro with his brothers, and focused on single-cone designs. By 1932, Dopyera had gained control of both DoBro and National. All Resophonic production ceased in 1941 with the advent of WW2 and restrictions on war materiel, particularly the metals necessary for the cones and bodies.

The National Reso-Phonic company restarted the National brand in the late 1980s, producing very high quality models based on a wide range of the historic designs.

Here we’re looking at a National Style O 12-fret model built during late 2006 by National Reso-Phonic in San Luis Opisbo, California. It features a nickel-plated brass body with the classic sand-blasted Hawaiian theme palm trees on the top and back, and a sand-blasted band around the sides. The slotted-peghead 12-fret neck is Maple, with a bound Ebony fingerboard. The neck finish is sunburst. This example is in very good, clean condition with only very light wear. The finish is of course a bright reflective nickel, shot against black to bring out the palm trees.

The original hard shell case is included.
