NO LONGER AVAILABLE!!! PRS Custom 22 Korina 10 Top, 2017

Here’s a beauty – a ‘Wood Library’ PRS Custom 22 Korina and Maple body, with solid Rosewood neck and Rosewood fingerboard, built during 2017 in Stevensville, Maryland.

The ‘Wood Library’ is a special section of the PRS plant in Stevensville, where the most extraordinary woods are stored, and are available to dealers for selection and use in custom order instruments. PRS has a page dedicated to the Wood Library with many photos and it can be viewed here.

Starting from the base 2017 Custom 22 model, this PRS Custom 22 Korina is built with the distinctive PRS double cut carved 10-Top Quilted Maple cap on a three piece Korina back. Instead of Mahogany for the neck, solid Indian Rosewood was chosen, with a separate Indian Rosewood fingerboard sporting the traditional Bird inlay set. The face of the head is capped with a thin layer of Indian Rosewood. The body has a gloss finish, with the Maple cap having a dark cherry tint while the Korina back is untinted. The neck and fingerboard have a natural oil finish.

The word ‘Korina’ is not a formal species designation. The name was coined in the late 1950’s by Gibson as a distinctive marketing term describing the woods used in the revolutionary – but not immediately accepted – 1958 Flying V and Explorer models. Korina is formally known as Terminalia Superba, and commonly as Black or White Limba. This wood is native to tropical West Africa.

Hardware on this PRS Custom 22 Korina features open-gear locking PRS tuners with Gold plated buttons and accents, a PRS vintage style trem bridge with chromed base and Gold plated saddles and pivot screws, and a pair of PRS Dragon humbuckers with chrome covers and Gold plated adjustment screws. The pickup mounting rings are white. Other electronics include master volume and tone, a five-way switch and side-mounted output jack with Gold plated jack plate and retaining nut.

There is a vanishingly small amount of wear, and fret wear is extremely light. This guitar plays well and cleanly, balances very well, and is very comfortable to play.
