❌SOLD❌ PRS McCarty Model Tobacco Sunburst, 1994

Instrument Categories: , , ,

This PRS McCarty Model in Tobacco Sunburst is from 1994, the year of the model’s introduction, and is in good shape with only minor wear. This model starts with the familiar PRS pairing of a Maple cap and a Mahogany back, with Mahogany set-neck and Indian Rosewood fingerboard. Position markers are dots, combining Mother of Pearl and Abalone.

For hardware, the PRS McCarty Model tuners are reproductions of the classic Kluson Deluxe units with plastic Keystone buttons. The tailpiece is an evolution of the early stop-bar bridge / tailpiece combination, with much heavier construction and a meaningful intonation ridge along the top. The early McCarty pickups were specific to this model. Controls are simple – Volume, Tone, and pickup selector.

Overall, this PRS McCarty Model is in good clean condition with minimal wear. There are a couple of small finish chips on the body edge just above the output jack. Fret wear is negligible, and the fingerboard has similarly light wear.

The original black hard shell case is included.

Ted McCarty was President of Gibson Guitars from 1949 to 1966, and was responsible for many classic instruments and components, including the Les Paul, Firebird, Explorer and Flying V models, the Tune-O-Matic bridge, and with Seth Lover, the Gibson humbucking pickup. He died in 2001 at age 91.

Here is the builder on the origins of the PRS McCarty Model:

“In the late 1980’s, Paul Reed Smith called on Ted McCarty to consult with him on guitar design and production techniques. He not only served as a mentor but became a great friend of Paul and everyone he met at PRS. In 1994, PRS released the first McCarty, an instrument that incorporated the full spectrum of techniques and knowledge Paul had gained from Ted as well as his own experiences as a guitar builder.”
