Here is a lovely Rickenbacker Model 330 FireGlo thinline hollow body electric, in very nice original condition, dating to the first week of December 2014. Like all other Rics it was built at the Santa Ana, California facility.

The Rickenbacker Model 330 is one of my all time favourite guitars, with a dramatic yet practical design – it’s hard to get a successful combination of those two aspects!

The Rickenbacker Model 330 design dates back to the late 1950’s when their new designer, Roger Rossmeisl, created a number of forward-looking designs including the Cresting Wave chambered body and slash soundholes.

On this Rickenbacker Model 330 Fireglo, the finish really stands out and shows off the contours, without being overly dramatic or flashy; it’s really quite well done. This guitar is presently strung with standard 10-46 strings and plays well. The light weight is always welcome, and it has a great resonance from the chambered, braced body.

Like other 330s, this model is only wired in Mono, and uses the High Gain single coil pickups. Tuners are Schaller M6 Minis, in Chrome.

Overall, this Rickenbacker Model 330 is in good clean condition with a couple of small finish chips at the top of the head, and some light pressure marks of ‘buckle rash’ type on the back.

The original Ric-branded, molded hard shell case is included.

Rickenbacker’s involvement in guitar construction began in the 1920’s, when Adolph Richenbacher’s metal shop was contracted to create metal bodies and aluminum cones for the revolutionary three-cone resophonic guitars designed by John Dopyera and George Duchamp and their new company, the National String Instrument Corporation. Eventually, Rickenbacher began producing their own guitars, including some of the very first production ‘Spanish’ style electrics, such as the 1935 Ken Roberts model and the Electro Model B, which is perhaps the very first solidbody electric Spanish style guitar to reach production. The term ‘Spanish’ refers to the way the guitar is held, distinct from lap or Hawaiian style instruments.
