❌SOLD❌ Sergei de Jonge Classical Guitar, 1998

Instrument Categories: , ,

This well used Sergei de Jonge Classical guitar was built during 1998 in de Jonge Toronto shop of Spruce and Indian Rosewood.  Sergei de Jonge builds many excellent, professional grade instruments, and he also has taught many other builders. Some already accomplished builders take shorter sessions focusing on areas where de Jonge specializes, particularly French Polish finishing. On this guitar, the initials MK are visible on the inside of the top, indicating that Mark Kett  did some work on this guitar. Kett is quite a capable builder, but currently focuses on producing inlay sets for other builders, including Linda Manzer, Michael Greenfield, and many others.

This Sergei de Jonge Classical follows a full size pattern with 650mm scale length and 52mm nut. The top is Spruce, with a very straight-grained set of Indian Rosewood for the sides, back, head plate and bridge. The body blocks and neck are Mahogany, and the fingerboard Ebony. The head plate features an Abalone strip, and there is one fingerboard side dot at the seventh fret. The top features an X and lattice pattern bracing system.

This fine classical guitar has been well used, and there is finger wear on the top under the strings. French Polish finish is often fairly thin and allows the guitar to resonate to pretty much its maximum. On the treble side, thin sections of plastic have been added to protect the side from wearing against the player’s leg.

Because it’s clearly been played, this Sergei de Jonge classical has a fully developed voice and is very responsive and resonant. It has lots of projection, and a full, rich tone with outstanding bass. It’s easy to get lost in playing this one.

A hard shell case is included.
