Here is a lovely, brand new Weber Bitterroot F14-F F-style mandolin in Faded Amber Burst, built recently at the Weber shop in Bend, Oregon.

Bruce Weber and others from the Flatiron Mandolin Company decided not to move to Nashville after Gibson’s purchase of the company, and in 1997 founded Sound to Earth, Ltd. and began building Weber mandolins and related instruments. In 2013, Weber relocated from Montana to Bend, Oregon. Bruce retired in 2016 and his highly trained team of talented craftspeople are producing new, very high quality instruments.

You can read more about the new Weber team here.

The Weber Bitterroot F14-F mandolin is a beautiful, visually understated instrument built with great care and precision.  The carved top is AA grade Sitka Spruce with Spruce tone bar bracing, paired with Flame Maple for the back, sides and neck.  The bridge and ivoroid-bound fingerboard are Ebony, and as a great advancement, the truss rod is a dual-action model, capable of putting bow into the neck, not just taking it out.

It plays very well and even for a brand new, unplayed instrument has a great tone.

The original Weber hard shell case is included.

Here’s part of what the builder has to say about the Weber Bitterroot F14 Mandolin:

“The Weber Bitterroot F14 Mandolins have a new thinner Faded Amber finish. With our advanced deflection monitoring and Hand-Voicing the Bitterroots have more chop and volume.

The Bitterroot is Montana’s state flower, whose fleshy roots were used extensively as food by the Native Americans, Lewis and Clark, and the pioneers and mountain men that followed. The Bitterroot Mountains follow the border between Idaho and Montana.”
