Here is a Wes Lambe A-Style Mandolin, #26 in Sunburst and built during 2005 in Chapel Hill NC before Lambe’s move to Hillsborough NC.
Wes Lambe has been building professionally since at least 1997 and his instruments are highly respected – and hard to get. At the moment, he has closed his order book to deal with existing orders.
This Wes Lambe A-Style mandolin is based closely on the early, revolutionary and highly influential Gibson A-style introduced – and patented – in 1898, along with the F-style. These ground-breaking designs blended traditional Mandolin concepts with Violin family construction methods and techniques, providing greatly improved volume, projection tonal clarity and usable life. There are many examples of these instruments that have had useful lives exceeding a century.
Built using a hand-carved Sitka Spruce top with F-holes, paired with Flamed Maple sides and hand-carved Flame Maple back and neck with Ebony for the bridge, head plate and un-bound fingerboard, the Wes Lambe A-Style mandolin also sports a Mother of Pearl and other shell Eagle headstock inlay. For hardware, traditional strip-style tuners are used along with an Allen MR-2 Monteleone style tailpiece.
Overall, this fine instrument is in good condition with play wear expected for 17 years of being used as intended. There are a few light scuffs, dents and wear to the finish mostly around the edges. The original rectangular black TKL hard shell case is included.
