Wildwood Troubador Openback 5-String Banjo

Brand:

Instrument Categories:

The Wildwood Troubador Openback 5-String Banjo is the flagship model for the Wildwood Frailing and Clawhammer traditional banjo line.

Clawhammer and Frailing are traditional banjo styles making a significant comeback. Not only are players exploring older traditional and historic repertoire, but new modern music is being created regularly outside of the old-time and bluegrass contexts. The banjo can work extremely well with a voice an an expressive device.

Open-back banjos are not as loud as resonator models, but they do still project well. The simple addition of an inexpensive mute, slipped on the bridge, can dramatically reduce volume for practice.

The Troubador uses a beautifully figured flame-maple neck and is built around the famous Tubaphone tone-ring, fitted to the proprietary Wildwood rock-maple lathe-turned, laminated block rim. The Fretboard and peghead overlay are ebony and feature Mark Platen’s imaginative and delicate inlay work, based on an avian theme.

The finish is a walnut stained gloss lacquer on neck and maple rim.

A hardshell case is included.

Wildwood banjos have been built since 1973, and in Bend, Oregon since 2008 and focuses on the production of high-quality traditional open back and bluegrass banjos.
