The Twelfth Fret ~ Since 1977 ~

❌SOLD❌ Wren 8-String Cutaway Acoustic Natural, 1989

Instrument Categories: , , ,

Here’s another rarity – a David Wren 8-String cutaway steel string acoustic guitar, built in Toronto during 1989.

Now retired, David Wren worked with Jean Larrivee in the mid 1970s and, along with others from the same group like William ‘Grit’ Laskin and Linda Manzer, became one of the premiere Canadian guitar builders. For some years he was a partner at The Twelfth Fret.

This David Wren 8-String cutaway pairs a Sitka Spruce top with Indian Rosewood for the bridge, head plate, sides and back, with Mahogany for the body blocks and neck and Ebony for the fingerboard. The body neck and head are bound with Maple. The tuners are mini Schaller models, and there are no electronics.   Decoration is simple,  with the inlays limited to the characteristic Wren bird inlay at the fifth fret.

Overall this interesting and unusual guitar is in good clean condition with light wear. There is one small dent in the top near the treble side of the tail block. The finish is in good condition with natural and expected lacquer sinking. The guitar itself plays well and the oversize body produces quite a lot of low end. At present, it is tuned F#, B E A D G B E, low to high.

The original hard shell case is included.
