The Twelfth Fret ~ Since 1977 ~

❌SOLD❌ Music Man 112RD65 Combo Amplifier, 1981

Brand:

Built from 1978 to 1983, the MusicMan 112RD65 has a self-explanatory name – 1×12 speaker, Reverb and Distortion, and 65 watts.

MusicMan Amplifiers were built from 1973 until 1983, when the company folded and was sold, becoming Ernie Ball MusicMan. However, only the guitar lines survived the transition, going on to keep and enhance their reputation for high quality and intelligent design.

Here we’re looking at a MusicMan 112RD65 that dates to about 1981 when the company was in Anaheim, California. While MusicMan amps were designed with plenty of headroom, these amps have two input channels, high and low gain, each with its own volume and gain controls. The tone controls are shared by both channels. This amp is in overall good condition with some light wear to the tolex covering. Its transformers are original. This amp weighs 46 pounds or 20.9kg, and thankfully is equipped with heavy-duty wheels.

The cabinet has an interesting and useful feature – the front is slanted, angling the speaker up a few degrees. This removes the need for the tilt-back legs that appeared on larger Fender amp cabinets from the introduction of the ‘piggyback’ design in the early 1960’s.
