1975 Gibson L6-S Deluxe (consignment) No longer available

Comments This is a 1975 Gibson L6-S Deluxe.

Introduced during 1973 in collaboration with Bill Lawrence, the L6-S was meant to provide a very versatile instrument at a lower production (and sales) cost, and to appeal to rockers who wanted something different than a Les Paul or SG, and to jazzers who remembered the big L-series archtops.

The line featured domestic maple bodies and necks, Bill Lawrence electronics and the wider Schaller-made adjustable bridge. The Custom models used the traditional stop tailpiece, while the Deluxe used a string-through-body arrangement. Some models featured a rotary pickkup selector.

The L6-S Deluxe was released in 1974 and discontinued in 1979. In 2011, the L6-S Custom was reissued, but not the Deluxe.

This example is from around 1975, though the exact date isn’t known. At that time, Gibson used a decal to put the serial number on the back of the headstock; but during a successful headstock repair, the decal was removed. Otherwise, this guitar is in great shape and plays well.

Serial Number N/A, serial decal was removed during touchup; built around 1975.
Pricing $1,200 CAD with original case.
Neck Maple neck with unbound rosewood fingerboard, mother of pearl dot markers, 24.75 inch scale length. Tapered headstock with Gibson logo screened in gold on black headplate finish.

Long ago, the headstock cracked and has been solidly repaired. There is a touchup around the nut area with some attendant re-spraying; structurally there appears to be no problem.

Frets Original frets with minor wear.
Body Two-piece single-cutawa maple body using a shape reminiscent of both the Les Paul and the L-series archtop guitars.
Finish Original burgundy-tint nitrocellulose lacquer finish with some wear. Long ago, the headstock was partially re-sprayed as part of the touchup for a head repair.
Hardware/electronics Original hardware – Kluson Deluxe tuners with plastic Keystone buttons, ‘Nashville’ wide adjustable bridge, Bill Lawrence pickups with pickup selector, master volume and master tone.
Playability/Action Plays well and cleanly. The all-maple construction adds brightness, clarity and sustain, without a lot of weight.
Case Original hardshell case, with Gibson logo, included.,
