Neck Honduras mahogany with bound rosewood fingerboard. Mother of pearl Gibson logo inlay on headstock; pearloid markers; some finger wear on fingerboard; this guitar has been played over the years! The neck joint is solid and the headstock has never been broken.
Frets 22 original medium frets, with some wear.
Body Honduras mahogany contoured body. Long ago the output jack panel on the top broke and was repaired; this was a common occurrence on these guitars.
Finish Original nitrocellulose cherry lacquer finish in good shape. Some buckle wear on the back.
Hardware/electronics Two patent number pickups without covers; original nickel-plated Maestro Vibrola with original arm; Tune-a-Matic bridge with nylon saddles to aid tuning stability when using the vibrato; two volumes, two tones, output jack and pickup selector on top in control array. Original 5-ply pickguard is somewhat buckled. Tuning gears (originally Kluson models) have been replaced with aesthetically similar Gibson Deluxe tuners with plastic keystone buttons.
Playability/Action Plays cleanly at a standard action height.
Case Original case included.
Comments The Gibson SG has been a workhorse guitar since its introduction in 1961. This 1965 example is in pretty good shape considering its age, plays well and sounds great. The Vibrola works well.
