I have recently revisited this 1920s European Acoustic guitar and restrung it with Newtone Heritage low tension strings. It is a lovely, playable guitar built in the 1920s in the style of typical 19th century instruments.

Still a common style in the 1920s, these guitars were built using more modern frets and neck fittings. However, they were styled in the look of the Romantic Era 19th century guitars to appeal to the many players who grew up playing guitars in the mid to late 1800s.

The neck is maple with a true V-joint volute maple headstock that is fitted in the maple neck. Rosewood fretboard is non-radius with modern T-tanged frets. The neck profile is a deep D profile, and the nut width is 1 3/4 inches.

The German Spruce top has a hand carved rosette soundhole, carved directly out of the wood as part of the top in the typical style of a Lute or Baroque guitar.

The back and sides are gently figured maple and the entire instrument is finished in traditional spirit varnish.

The frets show zero wear. The action height is 7/64 to 8/64 inches at the body joint which is high but considered well within tolerances for these old guitars and I find the guitar fully playable. The volume is 'subdued' and I find the tone to be nicely balanced when played with bare fingers. For me, the tiny body would make this the ideal guitar to quietly 'noodle' on for late night sessions.

The low E tuner has been replaced by a typical Chicago style tuner from the 1930s.

Though this instrument has had dozens of crack repairs over its long and interesting life, they have been solidly repaired and this guitar should continue to make music for another century or two.
