Introduced in 1959 for the 75th anniversary of the Fred Gretsch Company, the Gretsch 6118 Anniversary model is very similar to the iconic Gretsch 6120.

Both models used the same fully hollow, cutaway archtop body - at this point with trestle bracing for improved feedback rejection - made of maple laminates and a maple neck with ebony fingerboard. The Gretsch 6118 Anniversary differs from the Gretsch 6120 in the headstock shape, an unbound headstock and fingerboard, and some hardware. Some models of the Anniversary had only one pickup, and many did not have a Bigsby tailpiece.

This 1959 Gretsch 6118 Anniversary originally shipped with a G-cutout tailpiece and space control bridge, and these are in the original case. A Gretsch-branded V-cutout Bigsby B6 and a Schaller roller bridge were added. The Filter 'Trons are original, but the master volume control has been replaced along with its knob. The original Grover Sta-Tite tuners have been replaced with Gotoh models.

There is some fretwear; work was done on the neck long ago, which likely included a refret. The original heel plug (which covers a bolt) was removed, probably to allow a neck reset. The result is that the guitar plays quite well at a fairly low action.

This guitar carries its original two-tone finish, and it has worn as expected for a guitar that was used as intended. Unfortunately, the top's binding is showing 'binding rot', which is common on many 50's to 60's Gretsch models.
