The Gibson J-50 was introduced in 1945 as a slight upgrade to the iconic Gibson J-45, and was made possible by the end of World War 2. During the war, materials shortages forced Gibson to use lesser grades of spruce and apply sunburst finishes to hide blemishes and visual defects.

The J-50 sports a natural finish, which required clearer wood grains. It also has another binding layer on the top. Otherwise the two guitar designs are identical and have the same

This 1967 Gibson J-50 is in nearly original condition - the truss rod cover has been changed to a wooden bell with a medallion. Typical of 1960s production, the rosewood bridge has an adjustable ceramic saddle. The two mother of pearl dots on the bridge cover bolts that position and reinforce the bridge, so typically these bridges never come off. The original thick pickguard is in place and in good condition; Gibson might say that, like the Hummingbird pickguard, it adds an element of natural compression. A brown hardshell case is included.
