Here we have a Gibson Earl Scruggs Standard Mastertone Banjo, built in 2002 and in very good condition. It has just been serviced by Grant MacNeill, including a fret dress and an S&S bridge. The original case is included.

The Earl Scruggs Standard Mastertone banjo features a maple rim, flame maple resonator, a flame maple neck with ebony fingerbvoard, mother of pearl inlays, and a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer sunburst finish.

Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs were two of the most recognisable names in the bluegrass pantheon, and were arguably responsible for its rise to mainstream popularity. Earl Scruggs played a Gibson RB-Granada banjo for many years.

Gibson banjos are legendary but now are very hard to find; while Gibson was an overwhelming force in the banjo universe for decades, the rise of rock music pushed banjos further and further down the production priority list. In 2010, the devastating flood in Nashville damaged much of the Gibson banjo and mandolin facility, and has for the forseeable future ended Gibson's production of banjos, though mandolin production has resumed.
