John Walker now builds very fine instruments near Seattle, Washington, USA. However, he has also worked for the Flatiron Mandolin and Banjo company, and subsequently with Ren Ferguson for Gibson in Bozeman, Montana. While there, Walker and Ferguson founded the Custom Shop.

This 2008 John Walker Gus Creek Guitar is in excellent condition and is very well built. Featuring an Englemann spruce top, flame maple back and sides, mahogany neck and ebony for the fingerboard, headplate and bridge, this excellent instrument also has ivoroid binding, a complex zipper back strip, abalone inlays and gold Waverly tuners.

The Gus Creek model has an unusual origin - this parlor size was chosen because it made use of a good top that Walker had but was too small for full-sized instruments! The extra-deep body adds quite a bit of volume and tonal depth.

The cutaway body is also unusual, and brings to mind the lines of the Gibson CF-100E. This guitar has a very well executed sunburst finish in nitrocellulose lacquer. Overall, this instrument is in very good condition.
