Introduced in 2009 as one of two Sonic Youth signature guitars, the Fender Thurston Moore Jazzmaster signature model is a stripped down version of the classic Jazzmaster, with the bare essentials.

Originally, the Fender Jazzmaster and Jaguar were top of the line guitars intended to appeal to jazz and session players, with extra controls and presets for pickup settings. However, this didn't really catch on and these models languished until they were rediscovered in the post-punk wave.

The two guitarists in Sonic Youth picked up on these models and in 2009, Fender introduced signature models, the Fender Thurston Moore Jazzmaster and the Fender Lee Ranaldo Jazzmaster. Both have very comfortable necks with high, wide frets, and minimal finishes, and a more standard 'tune-o-matic' type bridge with the traditional Jazzmaster trem unit. Instead of complex electronics with thumbwheels and presets, there's just a pickup selector and volume control. The Thurston Moore model uses standard Jazzmaster pickups, while the Lee Ranaldo version uses Fender High-Range humbuckers.

This example was built in 2012 and is in excellent condition. The finish has little wear of any kind, and there is light to moderate fretwear in the low positions. The stock fretwire is so high that a light fret dress would make it like new with a hardly noticeable change in fret height.

The original hardshell case is included.
