Recently, Douglas Harrison in our repair shop renovated an older Ramirez 1a, which was primarily suffering from a poor neck angle that resulted in very high action.
To restore the guitar to playability, the fingerboard was removed and a mahogany wedge was created and fitted to the neck and top. The original fingerboard was then replaced on top of the wedge, and the action was at a normal height. Very little refinishing was required - mostly to the edges of the fingerboard and neck, and darkening the mahogany wedge to match the ebony fingerboard.
The owner of the guitar created a YouTube video featuring his restored Ramirez 1a, and has graciously allowed us to share it.
