1946 Martin D18 (consignment) SOLD

Comments Here’s a very cool 1946 Martin D18. The D18 was introduced in 1931 and has been in production ever since. It features the D-style Dreadnought body with Honduran Mahogany back, sides and neck, Sitka spruce top and ebony fingerboard and bridge. The D-18 is known for a brilliant tone with lots of attack and great separation between notes, which makes it very suitable for styles as diverse as bluegrass and solo fingerstyle (for example, the first three Bruce Cockburn albums feature a D-18, which was followed by a David Wren guitar). This guitar has is very resonant with sparkling trebles and full, warm bass and midrange and sounds just wonderful. It’s also quite light, at 3.8 pounds, so is comfortable to play for extended periods.
Serial Number 94252, built during 1946 in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, USA.
Pricing $6,199.00 CAD with original case.  SOLD
Neck Honduran Mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard.
Frets Minor wear. At some point over the years this instrument has been refretted, and there is a lot of life left in the current frets.
Body Classic Martin dreadnought shape with Honduran Mahogany back and sides, and Sitka spruce top. Over the years the top developed some cracks and these have been splinted and repaired. There is a wear near the pickguard and bridge, and this has been finished over. Ebony bridge.
Finish Nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The top and neck have been refinished (with the pickguard mounted in the modern manner, over the finish – this avoids the traditional top crack next to the fingerboard). The back and sides also appear to have been resprayed many years ago, and there are some wear marks, including where a set list might have been taped to the upper bass side. However, it’s very clean.
Hardware/electronics Original open back tuners with creme plastic buttons.
Playability/Action Plays very well and cleanly. This guitar appears to have had the neck reset that most guitars need at some point, so the neck angle and saddle heights are good and there’s lots of immediate playability here.
Case Original hardshell case included.
