1953 Gibson Les Paul Gold Top (consignment) SOLD

Comments Gibson’s Ted McCarty and Les Paul introduced the Les Paul model in 1952, and early models featured a unique – and short-lived – trapeze bridge / tailpiece combination.

This 1953 Gibson Les Paul Gold Top has been converted, as many were, to a what is now standard – a bridge and stop tailpiece configuration. Aside from that, it’s been refretted for playability, and the output jack plate has been replaced, but is otherwise in original condition. The original trapeze tailpiece is included in the original brown 4-latch case.

The guitar plays well and cleanly, and is very lively. It’s bright and resonant yet full and rich sounding.
