2011 Gibson Hummingbird True Vintage (consignment) SOLD

Comments Here’s an almost perfect 2011 Gibson Hummingbird True Vintage. Gibson introduced the Hummingbird in 1960 and it was their first square-shouldered dreadnought body guitar; to this point, Gibson was known for slope-shouldered dreadnoughts like the J-45. It was also second from the top of the Gibson acoustic line, with only the J-200 being more expensive. The True Vintage line is intended to recreate the look and feel of classic instruments, with Gibson using very clean examples as reference points.

The Hummingbird has been very popular with many players over the years and has appeared on countless stages and recordings, in many styles – the primary guitar on the Rolling Stones’ hit “Street Fighting Man” is a Hummingbird.

This guitar is in very good shape with just a small amount of finish peeling around four of the tuning gears. This can be stablilized with a small repair.

Serial Number 11921004, built July 11, 2011 (and is production number 4) at the Gibson Bozeman plant under the supervision of Ren Ferguson.
Pricing $2,650.00 CAD with original case. SOLD
Neck Mahogany neck with bound rosewood fingerboard. Mother of Pearl split-parallellogram markers, Gibson logo and leaf inlay.
Frets Original frets with very minor wear.
Body Gibson Square-Shoulder Dreadnought body design, with Mahogany back and sides and hand-scalloped, X-braced Sitka Spruce top. Multi-ply binding on top and back. Of course, this guitar has the famous hand-engraved and hand-painted Hummingbird pickguard. These are done one at a time in the Gibson shop. Rosewood bridge with mother of pearl dots covering the locating bolts.
Finish 1960’s style nitrocellulose lacquer finish, with Gibson’s ‘True Vintage’ features. This replicates the colour tones of the early 1960’s finishes, with a mid-gloss. It’s not full gloss, but not satin; it has an aged look. There is some finish separation around four of the tuner bushings on the front of the headstock.
Hardware/electronics Completely original. Gold ‘Gibson Deluxe’ branded Kluson-style tuners, built by Gotoh, with plastic Keystone buttons.
Playability/Action Plays very well, and there’s lots of saddle height for action adjustments.
Case Original case included. Vintage style ‘California Girl’ case, brown tolex exterior and pink lining.
