Gibson SG Tribute Natural Satin Walnut

Gibson SG Tribute Natural Satin Walnut

The Gibson SG Tribute is part of the Gibson Modern line and is an excellent workhorse guitar with simple and classic aesthetics. This guitar features the classic sg rounded and thin double cutaway body shape made of mahogany. This particular version of the Gibson SG Tribute comes in a satin walnut stain for a very earthy and natural look. The neck is maple with rosewood fretboard and fuller rounded profile and a 12” radius. The satin finish on the back of the neck and the 22 medium jumbo frets provide a smooth and easy playing feel. The double cutaway body design provides easy access all the way up to the last fret.

❌SOLD❌ Gibson Batwing SG Standard, Cherry 2005

The Gibson Batwing SG made its debut in 1966, with an extended pickguard covering the top above, between and below the strings, and also supporting the pickups. These were produced until 1971, at which point the SG Deluxe replaced it. The SG has been used by many players over the years, and the Gibson Batwing SG is very frequently seen in the hands of the great Angus Young of AC/DC. The large ‘batwing’ pickguard is well suited to an active playing style. It offers significant protection to the finish. And, incidentally, much easier pickup and electronic maintenance. That can be a real bonus for a touring musician!

The Gibson SG Standard first appeared in 1961 as a radical update to the Les Paul model, and bore the Les Paul name until 1963. This change had two drivers – one, Les Paul himself was not overly fond of the design, and his endorsement association with Gibson was coming to an end, partly due to complications with his divorce from Mary Ford. With the change in name, the Les Paul models disappeared from production until 1968, its resurgence sparked by the combination of that guitar and Marshall stacks as used by British blues-influenced players.

❌SOLD❌ Gibson SG Standard Heritage Cherry, 1996

The Gibson SG Standard is the successor to the Les Paul Standard, by way of Gibson’s 1961 complete redesign of the Les Paul models, and the loss of the Les Paul name that followed. There are a few small dents here and there, which have not broken the finish. Fret wear is light and the guitar plays well and is a comfortable weight – interestingly both examples weigh the same, 3.25kg or 7.15 pounds.

Differences between the Gibson SG Special and SG Standard don’t jump out at first. The main visual elements are the same – the same wood selection, shape, and gloss lacquer finish. However, the Special has an unbound fingerboard with dot markers, gold-decal Gibson logo and ‘SG’ engraved on the truss rod cover. The SG Standard has a bound fingerboard, trapezoidal markers, Mother of Pearl Gibson logo plus the ‘Holly’ inlay on the headstock. As well, the pickups are uncovered on the Special, while the Standard pickups have metal covers.
