Here’s another rarity – a David Wren 8-String cutaway steel string acoustic guitar, built in Toronto during 1989. Now retired, David Wren worked with Jean Larrivee in the mid 1970s and, along with others from the same group like William ‘Grit’ Laskin and Linda Manzer, became one of the premiere Canadian guitar builders. For some years he was a partner at The Twelfth Fret.
David Wren
This David Wren Concert guitar, built during 2012 and using a very nice Bearclaw figured Sitka Spruce top and Brazilian Rosewood for the back, sides, and headplate. One of Canada’s premiere luthiers, David Wren started work with Jean Larrivee in the early 1970’s. He’s been working from his own shop for decades, with spells at the Millwheel on Yonge Street and as part owner of The Twelfth Fret. Wren Guitar Works is now a standalone shop in Toronto’s east end.

MORE →The David Wren Studio line was made during the early 1980’s as a simpler, lower-priced ‘standard production’ alternative to the rather more expensive custom order models that most builders create. These models feature a spruce top and mahogany back and sides with ebony bridge, maple binding, and a mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard.
