❌SOLD❌ Julian Mario Rabaza Crossover Guitar, 1982

❌SOLD❌ Julian Mario Rabaza Crossover Guitar, 1982

Here is a rarity for North America – a Julian Mario Rabaza Crossover guitar dating to 1982 and built at Rabaza’s shop in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Julian Mario Rabaza has been well known South American circles for decades, and mostly builds Spanish style Classical and Flamenco guitars. This example is what we would now call a ‘Crossover’ model, meaning that it has a couple of adaptations for those playing other styles – Tango and Latin Jazz for example.

❌SOLD❌Ramirez SPR Spruce Top Classical Guitar, 2012

❌SOLD❌Ramirez SPR Spruce Top Classical Guitar, 2012

The Ramirez SPR classical guitar continues the tradition of the Ramirez 1a Especial model. Conceived by the maestro-luthier Amalia Ramirez, the SP-R furthers the evolution to the ‘modern’ sound. In the model designation, the SP refers to ‘Semi Professional’ and the R for Revised – this model supersedes and improves the original Ramirez SP. Based on professional grade model designs, the top of the Ramirez SPR is built at the Ramirez shop and the guitar completed offsite. The Ramirez home shop is not a large place, and Madrid doesn’t allow spray finishing within the city limits, so offsite completion is necessary.

❌SOLD❌ Pedro de Miguel Flamenco Negra Guitar, 1999

❌SOLD❌ Pedro de Miguel Flamenco Negra Guitar, 1999

Here we’re looking at a Pedro de Miguel Flamenco Negra Guitar, built during 1999 and showing signs of being well used for its intended purpose.  Traditionally, Flamenco guitars are built very lightly, with Spruce tops and Cypress for the sides and back, and with a low action.  The goal is to produce a bright, percussive and responsive tone with fast attack.   Because of the light colour of Cypress wood, these are referred to as Flamenco Blanca guitars.

Alhambra 5PCT E2 Thinline Crossover Classical Guitar

Alhambra 5PCT E2 Thinline Crossover Classical Guitar

Part of the Conservatory line intended for serious students, the Alhambra 5PCT cutaway classical guitar verges into the area of ‘Crossover’ models, meant to make nylon string tone and responsiveness available to players in non-classical musical contexts.  This model is based on the popular Alhambra 5P Conservatory Series Concert Classical guitar. Several factors help define the ‘Crossover’ models. Typically, the body has a cutaway and is thinner, and there’s a recognition that the guitar will be amplified. The thinner body reduced feedback, and the pickup and preamp help restore fullness.

❌SOLD❌ Ramirez Conservatorio Cedar Top Classical Guitar, 2014

❌SOLD❌ Ramirez Conservatorio Cedar Top Classical Guitar, 2014

Here’s something unusual – a Ramirez Conservatorio Cedar top classical guitar, with ‘Fiddle Edge’ construction, Red Cedar top, Indian Rosewood for the back and sides, and SPR style bracing. The Ramirez Conservatorio Cedar Top Concert Classical guitar represents a major development in classical guitar design from Amalia Ramírez, with unique use of ‘fiddle edge’ construction. The Conservatorio uses the same advanced 8 fan brace pattern as the SPR but a unique system for gluing the top and backs to the rims and no internal linings are used!
