This GW Barry Concert LH features a Bearclaw Sitka Spruce top paired with a lovely Brazilian Rosewood set for the sides, back and head plate. This guitar was built during 2017 at GW Barry’s shop in Toronto, Canada. High quality, high end and hand built Left Handed guitars are not very common, so it is a treat to see this fantastic piece from Toronto luthier G W Barry. Barry has been building for over 35 years, including a five year working apprenticeship with Jean Larrivee.

The Harrison GB Custom has become a very successful instrument for jazz guitarists, and was developed with the late Gary Benson, a prominent Toronto player and teacher. This Harrison GB Custom features a Quilted Maple cap on a chambered Mahogany body and a Mahogany neck with a Maple-bound Ebony fingerboard fitted with Stainless Steel frets. The custom built tailpiece is also Ebony.
The Taylor 814ce DLX is a luxurious Grand Auditorium body shape which pairs a Sitka spruce top, Indian rosewood sides and back with Taylor’s patented V-Class bracing to reach new levels of tonal performance. One of Taylor’s most popular shapes, the Grand Auditorium body is a versatile general-purpose guitar. Its width is similar to a dreadnought but with a much curvier shape which changes the response and dynamics. It is equally well suited to fingerstyle or strumming so you can use it for many different styles.
Here is a lovely Harrison GB Custom Redwood Burl top thinline archtop, built in Toronto during 2017 and based on a design for the late jazz artist Gary Benson. Douglas Harrison has been building arched top guitars for some years now and his GB Custom has been very popular, with most I have seen being true custom models, with varying tops and hardware configurations.
Built in Newtownards, Northern Ireland, the Avalon Ard Ri A3 330 shows the influence of the company’s history with George Lowden, but also new in-house designs. Lowden Guitars is still operating and producing high quality instruments under the leadership of George Lowden. The original Lowden company was on the verge of folding in 1988 due to weak demand for acoustic guitars, a situation pressuring many builders at the time.
