❌SOLD❌ Gibson ES335 Satin Memphis Cherry, 2014

❌SOLD❌ Gibson ES335 Satin Memphis Cherry, 2014

The Gibson ES335 Satin was built in the now-closed Memphis plant as more affordable 335 with all the trimmings, traditional quality and sound. It features the same 3-ply Maple/Poplar/Maple body and Mahogany neck construction as higher-priced models. The same hardware is used, which in 2014 meant a pair of ’57 Classic pickups – in 2015, Burst Buckers were adopted. Dating to February 11 2014 and built in Memphis, this Gibson ES335 Satin is in very good condition with very light wear.

❌SOLD❌Airline Pocket Bass by Valco, Black 1964

❌SOLD❌Airline Pocket Bass by Valco, Black 1964

Here is a rarity,  an Airline Pocket Bass by Valco, Black dating to 1964, a short scale bass regarded by some as one of the best recording basses ever made.  The Airline Pocket Bass was built from 1962 to 1968 at the Valco shops in Chicago, Illinois, along with other Valco brands including National and Supro. Valco also branded their instruments for other companies, many of which were distributors or catalog retailers like Montgomery-Ward and Sears Roebuck. Valco amplifier production followed the same pattern but their customers included established builders like Harmony, Gretsch and Kay.

❌SOLD❌ Gibson J-35 Round Shoulder Flat Top Natural, 2013

❌SOLD❌ Gibson J-35 Round Shoulder Flat Top Natural, 2013

Built from 1936 to 1942, the Gibson J-35 round shoulder model, formally known as the Jumbo 35, replaced the more expensive Jumbo, whose sales were poor due to the ongoing Great Depression.  The very first models were named the Gibson Trojan. In 1942, the Jumbo 35 was itself replaced by the very successful J-45 model. The Gibson J-35 round shoulder jumbo and the J-45 have many visible and structural similarities. Both feature a Jumbo body with Spruce top paired with Mahogany for the back, sides, body blocks and neck, with Rosewood for the bridge and fingerboard.

❌SOLD❌ Gibson ES345 1964 Reissue Frost Blue, 2019

❌SOLD❌ Gibson ES345 1964 Reissue Frost Blue, 2019

This is a treat – one of the last pieces from the now-closed Memphis plant, a Gibson ES345 1964 Reissue in Frost Blue with nickel plated hardware. Gibson hit the mark squarely in 1958 with the introduction of the groundbreaking thinline semi-hollow concept, coupled with their new humbucking pickups. The ES-335 and upscale ES-355 were an immediate hit, and in 1959 the line was filled out with the mid-range ES-345, which also sported Split Parallelogram position markers and a six-position Varitone circuit, but not the Stereo outputs or extra binding of the ES-355.

❌SOLD❌Gibson Hummingbird Square Shoulder Dreadnought Sunburst, 1967

❌SOLD❌Gibson Hummingbird Square Shoulder Dreadnought Sunburst, 1967

Immediately popular particularly with singer-songwriters and carrying a distinctive hand-painted pickguard, the Hummingbird was used on many popular recordings, sometimes to surprising results. For example, The Rolling Stones’ ‘Street Fighting Man’ features a Hummingbird recorded on an overdriven Philips cassette recorder, with Charlie Watts using a portable practice kit. Other recordings, like ‘Angie’,  record the Hummingbird more conventionally.
