❌ SOLD ❌ Hopf Archtop Guitar for Remeny Music, 1950s

❌ SOLD ❌ Hopf Archtop Guitar for Remeny Music, 1950s

Here’s an interesting archtop guitar carrying a bit of world and local history – a Hopf archtop guitar built for and imported by Remeny Music in Toronto. There are two names associated with this instrument, Hopf and Remeny (now spelled in its original Hungarian form as Remenyi). Both have significant histories affected by European wars and trends. Hopf has been a well-established German maker of classical instruments since 1909 with interruptions during the world wars, but in the postwar era and until the 1970s built or commissioned archtop and electric guitars.

❌SOLD❌ Baldwin Vibraslim Bass Semi-Hollow Sunburst, 1966

The Baldwin Vibraslim Bass was built between 1965 and 1970, but its first appearance was as a Burns model. Over time, the Baldwin label took prominence. This bass dates to around 1966 – the first Burns run had the controls mounted on the pickguard and had a more traditional tailpiece, which was replaced by the Rezo-Tube bridge.

❌ SOLD ❌ Gretsch G6120-1959LTV Archtop Electric, Orange 2000

❌ SOLD ❌ Gretsch G6120-1959LTV Archtop Electric, Orange 2000

The Gretsch G6120-1959LTV isn’t currently in production, but it represents the specs of the famous 1959 Gretsch Chet Atkins models, with lacquer finish, zero fret, Trestle bracing and TV Jones Classic pickups. Technically, this guitar isn’t a Chet Atkins model, as at time of construction Gretsch had not re-obtained the rights to the Atkins name. Still – the rest is the same. Based on a 16 inch wide, single cutaway body with sides 2.75 inches high.   It was originally built with a bracing system combining a pair of tone bars running the length of the body plus a sound post under the bridge, but in 1959 Gretsch added a ‘Trestle’ bracing system for Chet Atkins,  who was facing the common problem of hollow-body guitars feeding back at ever-increasing stage volumes.

❌SOLD❌ Huss and Dalton TOM-M Torrefied OM Mahogany Steel String

❌SOLD❌ Huss and Dalton TOM-M Torrefied OM Mahogany Steel String

The Huss and Dalton TOM-M was our on staff expert, Mike Gray’s favourite guitar at the 2017 NAMM show.   The name means that it has a Torrefied spruce top on an OM or Orchestra Model size body that has Mahogany back and sides.   Torrefaction is a process of carefully heat-treating tonewoods to simulate the effects of decades of aging, and helps produce a warmer,  open tone – helping a new, relatively unplayed instrument sound and respond as if it had years of being played.
As with all Huss and Dalton instruments, the fit, finish and attention to detail is unmatched.  These guitars play very well, sound great, and are very responsive.
