2004 Hofner New President P55 Archtop Guitar
Hofner has produced quality instruments since 1887, and while with one notable exception hasn’t made huge inroads to the North American market, their instruments are easily found in Europe. The exception is of course the Hofner Beatle Bass!
The Hofner New President P55 is a full 16 inch body archtop guitar with one pickup at the neck. It features a carved German spruce top, African flamed maple for the sides and arched back, European flamed maple for the neck, with ebony for the fingerboard, headplate, truss rod cover bridge, tailpiece and pickguard.
Metal hardware is gold, except for the black volume and tone knobs mounted on the pickguard. The tuners are gold-plated Schaller models with ebony buttons, and the pickup is a Hofner Diamond byu Kent Armstrong, mounted to the fingerboard tag and not touching the top.
The scale length is 25.5 inches, with a 1 11/16 inch nut width. There are 24 frets and the neck joins the body at the 16th fret.
This 2004 Hofner New President P55 Archtop Guitar is in very good condition, with only minor wear. Helping to date it to 2004 are the ebony truss rod cover, introduced in 2004 – and the rounded pickguard – this was changed in 2008 to a more angular design. We’re sure it’s a 2004 because Hofner Canada posted an image of a 2004 model that’s 18 away from the New President shown here. Note: In some markets, the P55 is called the H55.
