This is something you don’t see every day – a BC Rich B Double neck! This example dates to 2011 and is in great original condition.

The BC Rich B Double neck model is based on the 1977 ‘Rich Bich’ design, but expanded to two necks. This uses a neck-through design, with a combination of Mahogany and Nyatoh and perhaps Walnut separating the core from the ‘wings’. The fingerboards are Ebony with the classic ‘cloud’ BC Rich position markers.

To retain the compact size of the 12-string headstock, the octave strings feed through ferrules on the back of the head, and the tuners are in the cutaway at the tail block. The tuners are Grover Super Roto-Matics with ‘stair step’ buttons, the bridges are BC Rich designed Quad and Quad 12 models, harkening back to the original BC Rich guitars with Leo Quann ‘Badass’ bridges. For electronics, Rockfield pickups are installed.

The wiring layout is somewhat complex. Each neck gets two and one tone control, and a 3-way pickup selector. The signal then passes through a passive, 5-position Varitone. There are also two coil tap and one reverse phase switch.

This BC Rich B Double Neck example is in great shape, and plays well. While it’s not exactly lightweight, it doesn’t weigh more than many higher end banjos.

The original hard shell case is included.

With his father in the late 1950’s, Bernardo Rico started building guitars in Los Angeles, most of their output being classical and flamenco models. Towards the end of the 1960’s, Bernardo began experiments with electric guitars, culminating in the unique and original design of the Seagull during 1972. Two other models with bird-themed names soon followed – the Mockingbird and Eagle. These hand-built yet production instruments featured neck-through construction and circuitry that had not been seen on electric guitars.

Here’s the builder on the BC Rich B Double neck

“If you’re looking to conquer miles and miles of new sonic terrain, the B.C. Rich B Double Neck Legacy delivers with maximum style and impact. Its bloodline can traced to the late ’70s, early ’80s era B.C. Rich Classic lineup, but make no mistake: this guitar is all business. Its form, function and tone-shaping abilities scream “sophistication.”

Its dual neck-through mahogany body design provides lightning-fast access to the highest frets on its 24-fret two-octave necks, and comes standard with two sets of Duncan Designed HB-103 pickups. The upper neck is a twelve-string guitar with a simple volume, volume, tone and 3-way pickup selector. It also features a fully adjustable B.C. Rich Quad bridge and rear-mounted tuners below the bridge. The lower neck of the Bich is strung as a traditional six-string. The six-string’s harmonious sounds can be further sculpted with its 5-position varitone filter knob, two coil tap switches and reverse phase switch, providing guitarists with hundreds of new tones to be explored.”
