The Gretsch Chet Atkins Nashville appeared in 1964, identical to the previous year’s 6120 model in almost every respect aside from the name.

Introduced in 1954 as a full-bodied, single cutaway archtop equipped with DeArmond Dynasonic single coil pickups until the new humbucking Filter ‘Tron pickups appeared in 1958, in the early 1960s the Gretsch 6120 underwent a major change. It still carried much of the same hardware, but had the new double cutaway, slimmed down and sealed ‘ElectroTone’ body with faux F-holes painted on the top. A snap-on padded back pad covers a plastic cover plate that exposes the guitar’s interior, making service considerably easier. This was important because the new Gretsch Chet Atkins Nashville gained new hardware in the form of lever-operated string mutes.

Here we’re looking at a very nice Gretsch Chet Atkins Nashville model, built during 1967 at the Brooklyn New York plant. At this time, Gretsch was just completing its sale to the Baldwin Piano Company and major changes had yet to take place. It is complete and original, with the original Gretsch case.   The pickguard is original and un-broken.

This Gretsch Chet Atkins Nashville example features a hollow Maple Laminate ElectroTone body with the snap-on back pad covering the access plate. The neck is three piece Maple-Walnut-Maple. A bound Ebony fingerboard with zero fret and ‘thumbnail’ Neo-Classic position markers is used. The hardware is gold plated except for the Bigsby and includes open-gear tuners, Filter ‘Tron pickups, individual and master volume controls, pickup selector, tone switch, a standby switch and a mute lever with black felt padding. The mute sits in front of a simple rocking-bar bridge. Finish wear is light, and the binding is in good shape with a few re-glued sections between the first and third frets. Fret wear is light to moderate, heaviest at the first fret.

The original silver colored hard shell case is included, and is in great condition.
