Here’s a very clean, all original 2016 Gretsch G6128 Duo Jet in Black, with vintage-style Bigsby B3 V-cut tailpiece and Space Control bridge. This model uses the 1959 style electronics layout with two Filter ‘Trons – pickup selector, tone selector, plus individual and master Volume controls.

This example is in great condition with almost no wear. It is sold with the original hard shell case. The case is in matching condition with the original truss rod adjuster, case key Gretsch documentation and QC checkoff sheet identifying this as a G6128, on 8-3-16. The serial number was applied to the guitar during June of 2016, and indicates that date. The original protective sleeve on the Bigsby arm is still in place!

This Gretsch G6128 plays very well and sounds great. These are one of my favourite yet under-appreciated models, compact and reasonably lightweight with a huge range of tones. They fit well in almost any style of music, from straight country to arena rock!

The Gretsch G6128 Duo Jet – then just the 6128 with no G – first appeared in 1953 as a response to the Gibson Les Paul, with the intention to provide the same feedback resistance but with chambering to give archtop-like resonance. Original Jet models used DeArmond DynaSonic pickups. Chet Atkins was a key endorser of Gretsch guitars, and like every other player had continual issues with 60-cycle hum. Chet had discussions with his friend Ray Butts at Gretsch, and in 1957 Ray came up with and patented a unique hum-cancelling design called the Filter ‘Tron. This appeared at the same time as Seth Lover at Gibson patented their humbucking pickup. They are crisp, clean and clear with plenty of definition and separation. The Filter ‘Tron design works well with both clean and overdriven amp setups, as can be heard in the late Malcolm Young’s rhythm guitar work on any AC/DC tune.
