Here’s an unusual offering – a new old stock Hofner 1961 Cavern Bass in left handed! This fully hollow bass is Inspired by the original 1961 model purchased by Paul McCartney in Hamburg.

Bearing the full model name of ‘Hofner 500/1 Vintage 61’, this left-handed bass is an accurate reproduction of the early sixties spec, flat back hollow violin bass, with the original 1961 neck profile.  It has the Hofner feel and the unmistakable ‘thump’ and roundness of the Beatle Bass.

This 1961 Cavern Bass Reissue was built at the Hofner plant in Germany, dates to 2015, and has two small chips on the back of the headstock’s upper edge but is otherwise in as-new condition.

The Hofner 1961 Cavern Bass original hard shell case and hang tag-booklet is included.

The Hofner 1961 Cavern bass was very popular in Europe during the late 1950s and early 1960’s. American built instruments were rare and expensive, and use by wildly successful bands such as The Beatles made everyone want one. At the time, the tiny Cavern Club in London was one of the key venues for aspiring bands to appear, and The Beatles played there so often the club name became closely associated with the band.
