We’ve just received a batch of new Hofner basses, including a Made-In-Germany 500-2 Club Bass! Introduced in 1965, the Club Bass is structurally similar to the hit 500-1 Violin Bass. Both instruments are fully hollow, with flame maple top, back and sides, but the Club Bass has a more conventional single cutaway body shape.

The Hofner 500 series basses have a short scale at 30 inches or 76cm, compared to the ‘Standard’ Fender Precision bass at 34 inches or 86.36cm. This makes these instruments much easier to handle, especially for those of us who perhaps have smaller hands or shorter arms. The nut width is 42mm or 1.65 inches. They are among the lightest weight basses available – the Club pictured here sends our shipping scale to just over 2kg, or 4.5 pounds. This helps make them easy to play for longer periods.

These are very comfortable basses to play, and they sound great.
