The Larrivee L-02 LH is the Left Handed version of the standard L-02, using the classical-derived L body with Spruce top and Mahogany for the back and sides.

Jean Larrivee began building classical guitars in the early 1960’s with a significant amount of information from Edgar Monch, the noted German builder who was working in Toronto at the time. In 1971, a number of requests caused him to build a steel string guitar, followed by many. That was a period when technical guitar building information was not common and mostly what was available was a few books on classical guitar building. Larrivee created the new L-body design, combining classical bracing principles with steel string requirements. This delivered a better balanced mix of tones, and the guitars rapidly grew in popularity – as did the need to expand and hire more staff. Many of those early staff members went on to be at the top of Canadian Lutherie themselves.

According to its serial number, this Larrivee L-02 LH is dated to September 23, 2010, in Vancouver, BC, Larrivee’s last Canadian plant before 2001’s shift to operations to Oxnard, California. Like the standard right-handed models, it pairs a Sitka Spruce top with Mahogany for the sides, back, body blocks and neck. The body binding is flamed Maple. The head plate is Indian Rosewood. The bridge and bound fingerboard are Ebony. As an ’02’ trim level instrument, decoration is minimal, with the Larrivee headstock logo as inlaid acrylic and position markers as small silver dots, while the fingerboard binding and heel cap are grained ivoroid. The natural finish is gloss for the top and Satin elsewhere.

For hardware, the tuners are Larrivee branded with ivoroid buttons. The nut is bone and the compensated saddle Tusq or similar.

The tail pin is a combination switching output jack, and there is a heel-mounted strap pin. An L R Baggs pickup and pre-amp set was factory installed, with the battery bag fixed to the neck block. The volume and tone controls are mounted inside the bass edge of the sound hole. The battery is switched on by plugging a cable into the endpin jack, and off by unplugging.

This Larrivee L-02 LH example is in overall good condition with a few small marks to the top, and light to moderate fret wear.

The original hard shell case is included.
