This Larrivee L10 12 String guitar with a Dragon headstock inlay was built in Victoria, British Columbia, and dates to the very early 1980’s.
Based on their standard ‘L’ body, which is itself based on classical guitar body proportions, this lovely guitar is built using Sitka Spruce for the top Abalone for the top purfling and rosette, Indian Rosewood for the sides, back and head plate, Mahogany for the body blocks and neck and Ebony for the bridge and bound fingerboard. Both the fingerboard and bridge feature a Deluxe inlay set. The Dragon engraved inlay on the headstock was done by Wendy Larrivee in Mother of Pearl and Abalone, and is surrounded by the silver border designed for Larrivee by Tony Duggan-Smith. Tuning gears are Schaller M6 Minis, and that’s it for hardware! There are no pickups or other electronics.
As a 12, the fingerboard of this Larrivee L10 12-string is a bit wider than most 6-string models, and it has a full 25.59 – 650mm – scale length. The 650mm scale is another indication of the classical guitar influence on Jean Larrivee’s designs, much drawn from his work with the late Edgar Monch during the time they were both in Toronto.
This vintage example is in overall good shape with some light marking indicating that it’s been used as intended. Fret wear is light, and the action is quite reasonable. It has a full, rich sound with excellent tonal balance.
A Tweed hard shell case is included.
