Now discontinued but based on the classic 14-fret OO sized body, the Larrivee OO-05 pairs a Sitka Spruce top with tropical Mahogany for the sides, back and neck, with Ebony for the fingerboard and bridge. This fine example dates to December 13, 1993 and was built in Victoria, British Columbia.
The OO body design appeared in 1898 and in terms of size is now below the middle range, with OOO, OM (Orchestra Model), D (Dreadnought) and J (Jumbo) sizes above it. Modern body styles like Grand Symphony and Grand Orchestra are also larger. However, when introduced, the OO was larger than most guitars.
This Larrivee OO-05 sports a gloss lacquer finish which is in quite good shape, with natural and expected sinking into the wood grain. The top is Sitka Spruce, the sides, back and neck Tropical Mahogany, Ebony for the bridge and bound fingerboard, and the head plate is Indian Rosewood. The Larrivee logo is a decal, not an inlay. This guitar has had a Fishman active pickup system installed, with the battery located on the neck block, and an end-pin jack added.
Overall this guitar is in very good condition and the Larrivee OO-05 shows the Classical influence of Jean Larrivee’s work with Edgar Monch; the scale length, for example is 650mm, the standard Classical length but a bit longer than used by Martin or Gibson. It has a full, rich and even sound characteristic of the OO body.
The original hard shell case is included.
