The Yamaha TRB 5 ii is a very solid ‘monster’ bass, upgrading the previous TRB series to a long 35 inch scale length. The line has been built since 1989, and the ‘ii’ series until 2004. This example features a translucent blue finish and gold coloured hardware. The TRB design uses the familiar, reliable bolt-on concept and was first offered as a six-string model. 5 and 4 string versions followed quickly. The comfort-contoured body is Ash, with deep cutaways offering full access to the 3-piece laminated Maple neck. The neck joint is serious, with six bolts.

Here, we’re looking at a Fano PX6 Alt de Facto model with three key options – Lollar Firebird pickups instead of P90s and a set, Mahogany neck rather than a bolt-on Maple neck. This model hews close to the ‘Non Reverse’ aesthetic, with a bound Rosewood fingerboard and six-on-one-side tuning machines. The body is a slab of Mahogany with lightly rounded edges.

Here we’re looking at a brand new, just introduced Huss and Dalton CM model. It features an Engelmann Spruce top, Indian Rosewood for the sides and back, with Mahogany for the body blocks and neck. The head plate, bridge, and Maple-bound fingerboard are Ebony. Body binding is also Maple. Abalone is used for the rosette and 12th Fret Scroll inlay, and the Huss and Dalton log is Mother of Pearl.

Here we’re looking at an EBMM Classic Stingray 4 bass in very nice condition. Its serial number dates it to March 23rd, 2010, and it was built at the Ernie Ball Music Man plant in San Luis Obispo, California. The body is Ash, and the neck is Maple; the two are connected with a long six-bolt neck joint for rock-solid stability. Controls are simple yet versatile, with an active two band EQ powered by a single standard 9-volt battery.

The Eastman MD915SB F Style mandolin follows the classic bluegrass style instruments pioneered in the early part of the 20th century by Orville Gibson and Lloyd Loar. These instruments departed steeply from all previous mandolins, in that they merged violin family concepts with the mandolin design. Traditional European mandolins generally had bowl backs and flat tops, which limited both their comfort and potential for delivering sound at a higher volume.
