The Taylor 514ce Cedar and Mahogany steel string guitar has been in Taylor’s line since its introduction in 1998.  Using a Grand Auditorium body,  its pairing of  a Western Red Cedar top with Central American Mahogany make it a great choice for finger stylists. Red Cedar is used on many classical guitars due to its warmth and responsiveness to the dynamic nuances of fingerstyle playing, and is tonally balanced by the articulation, sparkle and midrange presence of the Mahogany sides and back.   With playing,  Cedar also develops its voice fairly quickly compared to Spruce.

Here we’re looking at a Taylor 514ce Cedar top model built at El Cajon, California.   Drawing from Taylor’s serial number decoder, this guitar was finished on January 26, 2016.   Along with the Red Cedar top and Mahogany body,  Mahogany is used for the body blocks and neck, Spruce for the bracing and Ebony for the bridge, fingerboard and head plate.  The position markers use Taylor’s Century scheme in grained ivoroid.  Naturally, it has Taylor’s ES – Expression System pickup and preamp set factory installed, helping make it ready to go on any stage.

This guitar is in very good,  clean condition with only  light play wear.    It delivers a very good playing experience – it’s a comfortable design, and the tone is rich and full.

The original Taylor hard shell case is included.

Here is the builder on the Grand Auditorium body design used on the Taylor 514ce Cedar:

“Our most popular and versatile body shape, the mid-size Grand Auditorium arrived in 1994 bearing refined proportions that fell between a Dreadnought and Grand Concert. While the bigger Dreadnought was traditionally considered a flatpicker’s guitar and the smaller Grand Concert catered to fingerstylists, the GA was designed to deliver on both fronts.

The Grand Auditorium shape produced an original acoustic voice that was big enough to handle medium-strength picking and strumming, yet with impressive balance across the tonal spectrum, especially in the midrange, producing clear, well-defined notes that suited both strumming and fingerstyle playing.

The GA’s overall presence tracks well with other instruments both in a studio mix and on stage, and singer-songwriters have embraced its utility both for composing and traveling with one guitar.

Many people want a single guitar that can cover a variety of styles, which is why the GA continues to be our bestselling shape. If you want a great all-purpose guitar, the multi-dimensional GA won’t let you down.”
