This Taylor Custom GS-12 shows off the tonal and playability reasons why this company makes some of the best and most popular 12’s. The GS (Grand Symphony) body is large but comfortable, the neck is strong but slim enough to scamper around on, and the sound can easily fill a room.
This wonderful instrument came out of Taylor’s Build to Order program, with the original purchaser making specific choices, most notably a Venetian cutaway, no visible position markers on the fingerboard surface (just side dots) and no installed pickups or electronics; this is a fully acoustic model.
Dating to August 6th of 2021, this Taylor Custom GS-12 features a Natural finish and is in very good clean condition. The X-braced top and braces are Sitka Spruce and is paired with Mahogany for the sides, back, neck, body blocks and linings. Ebony from the Crelicam mill is used for the fingerboard and bridge. The head plate and truss rod cover are Indian Rosewood. It also has Taylor’s proprietary neck joint, which allows the almost inevitable neck reset to be performed in a matter of a few hours at reasonable cost rather than days or weeks at hundreds of dollars. Normally this takes years to become a concern, and this joint makes it much less of a concern.
The Taylor Custom GS-12 sounds great. It has an enormous but well balanced sound. Down tuning can take it into an entirely new range, the kind of thing that can be heard on many Leo Kottke recordings. Taylor made a signature Leo Kottke model, the LKSM-12.
The original black Taylor hard shell case is included. The case includes a Shubb and a Dunlop capo.
