Instruments arrive at our shop in varying conditions and this Taylor T5z Standard is one of the few that’s so nearly new it still has the retail description cards on the body!

The Taylor T5z Standard is a scaled-down version of the successful Taylor T5 line and their relationship is much like the one between Gibson’s 335 and 339 models. The concept and hardware are identical, and the key dimensions – scale length and nut width – are the same, but the body is smaller for players who find wide guitars less comfortable.

The Taylor T5 line appeared in 2003 to address an appearing niche market. At the time, budgets had been getting tighter and tighter for large touring shows and the days when the band could take all their instruments were over. For a guitarist, fewer instruments, preferably down to one and backups, had to fill all the roles the show demanded. The successful guitar covered acoustic, electric, and perhaps nylon string roles. The T5 was born and immediately started taking stage behind many touring artists.

Taylor developed the T5 as a hybrid model. Based on a thinline, chambered body, the T5 series adds three distinct pickups. Visibly, there is a lipstick-type humbucker at the bridge. A piezo body sensor is located under the top, and a humbucking pickup is hidden under the top at the end of the fingerboard.

This guitar is in very good clean condition and has been hardly played – the promotional card on the top is a clue to this! Wear is consequently very light, with virtually no fret wear and only very very light finish scuffing in a couple of spots.

The original hard shell case is included.

Here is the builder on the Taylor T5z:

“Like its bigger sibling, the T5, the hollowbody T5z packs a dynamic range of electric and amplified acoustic tones into one guitar. The difference is a more compact body size (closer to a solidbody) and playing features that electric players will love: a 12-inch fretboard radius (compared to 15-inch on the T5), jumbo frets that making bending strings easier, and slightly more feedback resistance with high-gain distortion.

Hybrid electric/acoustic design features include a three-pickup configuration — a magnetic acoustic body sensor, a concealed neck humbucker, and a visible bridge humbucker — plus five-way switching and onboard tone controls that let you shift from shimmering acoustic to screaming electric in an instant.

The guitar’s dual compatibility with electric and acoustic amps is the icing on the cake, putting incredible performance versatility into a player’s hands.

Like the T5, the T5z is available in four model options, each distinguished by soundboard choices of flamed koa, curly maple, spruce or mahogany, with corresponding appointment packages and color options. Two 12-string T5z models (Custom and Classic) are also offered.

The T5z Standard delivers an extra splash of acoustic-friendly tonal properties thanks to a Sitka spruce top. Color options include Black, Honey Sunburst and Tobacco Sunburst.

More compact than the original T5, the T5z also features a 12-inch fretboard radius and jumbo frets, which both help with string bends. Like the T5, the T5z is equipped with a three-pickup configuration of an acoustic body sensor, a concealed neck humbucker, and a visible bridge humbucker, plus five-way switching and onboard tone controls, giving players an incredibly versatile electric/acoustic guitar.

Featured appointments include chrome hardware, nickel hardware, crisp white binding and a Small Diamond inlay scheme. The guitar ships in a T5z hardshell case.”
