MORE →The Gibson SG has been in production for 50 years now, though in 1961 it was first named as a Les Paul. It quickly became a standard workhorse for all kinds of music. I can’t think of how many bands I’ve seen where the guitar players used an SG. As the SG Special, some models had a larger ‘batwing’ pickguard that covers more of the top; the guitar underneath is the same.
