MORE →This fine example of the Martin D12-18 was built during 1977, possibly around May. It’s in overall good condition and most importantly, its has just had a neck reset and full setup at The Twelfth Fret Repair Shop. Consequently, it plays very well and should be ready for years of use. The finish is in good shape with just a few small dings and dents, some of which show up in an exaggerated way in the photos due to lighting effects. The Grover strip tuners are an unusual model, and work well.

MORE →The C. F. Martin D-21 Steel String Guitar is less common than its classic D-18 and D-26 brethren. Drawing on the same Dreadnought body design, the D-21 combines D-18 level decoration with the D-28 wood choice of Rosewood for the back, sides and headplate. In 1967, the word ‘Rosewood’ almost always meant Brazilian Rosewood, and this D-21 uses avery nicely figured set. By 1969, Martin had stopped offering Brazilian as an option. This C. F. Martin D-21 is fresh from being maintained and set up in our repair shop and it plays very well.

MORE →This very nice example of the Gibson L-00 Steel String Guitar dates to 1936 and is in good working order. It was recently set up in our shop and thoroughly inspected. All the braces are intact and tightly glued in place. At some point in its life, it’s had a neck reset, and possibly at that time the sides, back and heel were oversprayed with a clear lacquer. This would have been done partly because Gibson’s production method installs the neck to the body before finishing, so a removing the neck to reset the dovetail causes finish damage.

MORE →Here’s a rare treat – from 2002, a David Nichols 00 Body Steel String Guitar, at Custom Pearl Inlay in Whippleville, New York. Nichols has been the mainstay of the C F Martin inlay department since the late 1960’s and builds guitars and mandolins under his own name. This fine instrument is in very good condition. Built using the classic Martin 00 design, this guitar uses Bearclaw-figured Sitka Spruce for the top, Brazilian Rosewood for the back, sides and headplate, Mahogany for the neck and Ebony for the fingerboard and bridge. The top is braced with a forward shifted, scalloped layout.
