Introduced as the top of the line in elegance and function, the Gibson Les Paul Custom 1954 model was presented in tuxedo style finish – black, white trim, and gold hardware. Unlike the original Les Paul gold-top models which paired a carved Maple top with a mahogany body, the new Custom’s body was entirely Mahogany. New hardware appeared, as well; the new, gold-plated ABR ‘tune-o-matic’ bridge and stop tailpiece, and the Seth Lover designed, single coil ‘staple top’ Alnico V neck pickup with a P-90 at the bridge.

Also available with a 14 fret neck, these guitars produce a full, rich and lush vintage tone.The National String Instrument Corporation patented and produced the first resonator instruments in 1927, responding to the constant need for more volume. The first instruments used three small cones – the classic Tricone design.

No Longer Available- Kolya Panhuyzen Professional Classical Guitar, 1980

This Kolya Panhuyzen Professional Classical Guitar built during 1980 at the Panhuyzen shop in Toronto, Canada. Constructed in the traditional Spanish manner with a true ‘slipper’ heel tying the sides into the block, this guitar features a Sitka Spruce top, Mahogany for the neck, Ebony for the fingerboard, and Indian Rosewood for the sides, back, headplate and bridge. The nut and saddle are bone, and the nickel-plated tuning machines are by Reischel, made in Munich, Germany.

Built in 1980 at his Toronto shop, this William Laskin 7-string classical is in excellent condition, and plays well. Showing a clear influence of his work with Jean Larrivee – Laskin was Larrivee’s first apprentice in 1970 – this guitar features a sharp Florentine cutaway body built with German Spruce and Indian Rosewood, with Mahogany for the neck and Ebony for the bridge and fingerboard. The headplate is also Indian Rosewood.

Tim Reede’s instruments are demonstrations of his skill and craftsmanship, and also of his understanding of what a guitar needs – an understanding comes from actually playing them. Here we have a Tim Reed Palo OM, built during 2017 at Reede’s shop in Minneapolis using bearclaw spruce, likely Sitka, for the top, Palo Escrito for the sides and back, and a 5-piece neck of mahogany, walnut and maple. The headplate, fingerboard and bridge are Indian Rosewood with bone for the nut and saddle. The top features a very blue Abalone rosette. Tuners are Gotoh 510 models, very smooth and accurate.

As a Martin Custom Shop instrument, this guitar is based on a 000 model with 12 fret neck, with customer-specified wood and trim choices. The top is certified High Altitude Swiss Spruce with scalloped Sitka Spruce bracing.
