Sold!! Louis Panormo Guitar, “Maker’s Number 1890”, London 1841

Sold!! Louis Panormo Guitar, "Maker's Number 1890", London 1841

This is one of our all-time favourites – a Louis Panormo guitar from 1841 with original, period-style coffin case and in fully playable condition! Louis Panormo was born in 1784, one of four sons of violin-maker, Vicenzo Panormo (1734-1813) who emigrated to England from Sicily. Vincenzo’s father was an apprentice of the Maestro himself: Antonio Stradivari. Louis became the most famous and respected of the Panormos, though all four brothers and nephews built guitars and violins for several decades, while others became respected musicians.

❌SOLD❌ Replica Bigsby 49 Standard Birdseye Maple, 2019

❌SOLD❌ Replica Bigsby 49 Standard Birdseye Maple, 2019

Here is a very unusual guitar – a Replica Bigsby 49 Standard, reproducing one of the very few, very first, very influential solidbody electric guitars. Paul Arthur Bigsby was a machinist with a strong interest in motorcycles and, as it turned out, guitars. He built a number of pedal steel guitars, perhaps 50 Spanish style guitars, and designed a now widely used hand vibrato tailpiece for Merle Travis. As well, he replaced the neck on Merle’s Martin, with a much slimmer neck sporting the distinctive Bigsby headstock. This neck aided the Travis style, which involves wrapping the left thumb over the low strings for bass notes.

❌SOLD❌ Louis Panormo Guitar, 1838

❌SOLD❌ Louis Panormo Guitar, 1838

Louis Panormo was the most successful of all nineteenth-century London guitar makers. His clients included Trinidad Huerta Madame Pratten and probably Fernando Sor. He built guitars from 1822 to around 1855 when his nephew took over the business. This 1838 Louis Panormo Guitar is an excellent example of the work of the era.

This particular 1838 Louis Panormo guitar was Panormo’s top regular model, with brazilian rosewood back and sides and a mother of pearl rosette. It was made in the Spanish style with seven fan braces (yes before Torres).
