The Valley Arts Brent Mason Signature Custom Pro is based on Mason’s 1968 Fender Telecaster, modified over the years to meet the requirements of a top session player. Introduced in 2004, the Brent Mason model was built for only a few years, after Valley Arts had been purchased by Gibson with a small retail and construction space in Nashville. However, by 2006 that shop closed and in 2012 Mike McGuire, who had founded Valley Arts in 1975 and ultimately ran Gibson Custom, retired.

The National NRP B Tricone is a special guitar, blending the features of the NRP and the NRP B, which replicates the single-cone, painted body 1930 Duolian.Built in San Luis Obispo California, the National NRP B Tricone has a wonderful, massive, deep and rich tone with lots of projection. These models carry a unique ‘Black Rust’ finish, reminiscent of the vintage ‘Duco’ frosted finish process.

Sold! Dobro Model 27 Sunburst, 1934

The Dobro Model 27 and 25 were for a time one of Dobro’s most popular models, though it’s hard to tell which model is which – the designation was based on that year’s price!
Here we’re looking at a what’s likely a Dobro Model 27, though possibly a 25, built during 1934 for Dobro by the Regal company of Chicago, Illinois. The body construction is largely of Birch ply, bound top and back,with likely Poplar for the neck and Walnut for the fingerboard.

Here is a lovely example of a turn of the century Lyon & Healy 5 String banjo, built circa 1895. Though there is no stamping on the dowel stick or label, it has the signature L&H shaped peghead and the lovely L&H Patent tailpiece which confirms the origin. The Lyon & Healy firm grew out of an effort by Oliver Ditson – beginning in 1864 – to expand his wholesale musical instrument business into the US Midwest, with a facility in Chicago run by George Washburn Lyon and Patrick J. Healy.

Larrivee OM 40R Legacy Series Natural Satin

The Larrivee OM 40R Legacy is simple and elegant orchestra sized guitar that features a Sitka spruce top and Indian rosewood sides and back. The squared peghead with open gear tuners and bold rope rosette and top purfling enhance this classic aesthetic. Built to compete with the Gibson L-7 and Epiphone Triumph, the Vega C56 Archtop was built from the 1930s until 1950. It was was Vega’s most popular full sized guitar and featured a solid Spruce top with Maple sides and back, Mahogany neck and Rosewood fingerboard. Here we have a Vega C56 archtop in the natural finish introduced in 1940. The serial number is somewhat below other models known to have been produced in 1940, so there’s a possibility this example was built in 1939. The top is solid Spruce, likely Adirondack.
