Hey, somebody has to be at the top of the heap … numero uno … the cream of the crop. Once again Bill Collings has taken a time-tested guitar design and refined it to the point of perfection. Most players, including myself, thought that the double cutaway thinline semi-hollow electric guitar had evolved as far as it was going to ever go, until this Texas guitar builder took it to the finish line with his I-35 Deluxe!

Steve Huber Banjos: The Lexington Model (No Longer Available)

The Huber tone ring is an exact replica of the great “pre war” rings that were used in the classic flathead banjos of the 1930’s. Not close, not similar… an exact replica! Steve has duplicated the alloy and the hardness of the metal, producing a ring with the same sonic qualities that are found in the rings of vintage banjos selling for ten times the cost of a new Huber.

Steve Huber Kalamazoo Banjo (No Longer Available)

Steve Huber Banjos represent the very finest in modern banjo construction – but designed and manufactured to a higher standard: the classic flathead banjos of the 1930s! Many banjo makers will hint that some aspects of their instruments can be compared to these legendary pre wars. Steve Huber goes several steps further.

Steve Huber Lancaster Model Banjo (No Longer Available)

Emulating the sound of a prewar Gibson flathead tone ring might sound like an easy proposition to those unfamiliar with the processes involved, but those in the know will tell you that it is a difficult task indeed, something close to discovering the Holy Grail of bluegrass. For this reason, it is all the more noteworthy that in the several months since its release, praise for the Huber Vintage Flathead ring has been unanimously enthusiastic. While many of us know Steve as a formidable bluegrass banjo player with an innovative traditional bent, his destiny as a tone ring developer par excellence now seems almost inevitable.

Collings Custom MT Blackface Mandolin ❌SOLD❌

The “Blacktop” finish has a rich history in the mandolin world, dating back to the very early 1900’s. Bill Collings occasionally builds one of his popular Collings Custom MT Blackface Mandolin model with upgraded gloss black top finish and adds grained ivoroid top binding to set the whole thing off. What a great look!

(Discontinued) Martin HD-16R Adirondack

After producing a large bodied instrument under the Ditson brand, in 1931 the Martin Company began producing dreadnought guitars that carried the Martin name. The D–1, like the earlier Ditsons, was a mahogany body instrument, destined to become the D–18. With the D–2, Martin introduced what may still be the most popular style of steel string guitar, the rosewood body dreadnought. All of Martin’s early dreadnoughts had the 12–fret neck of the Ditson design. It wasn’t until 1934 that D–28s and D–18s officially were offered with the 14–fret neck that most consider the industry standard today.
